QUALCOMM
Artist's Statement
Qualcomm is an American multinational corporation developing semiconductor components for various electronic devices. It is headquartered in my hometown of San Diego, CA., which made this project personal for me. For this identity redesign I focused on the initial Q as the main logo.
I took inspiration from the high-quality circular disc-shaped semi-conductor silicon wafers and the early horn antennae used in the world's first communications. After some sketching, the drawing was then rendered in 2D software.
From there, I created the custom type for the rest of the characters in the Qualcomm name. The new design is more prominent and balanced. It is cleaner, easier to read, and the Q by itself has an original look and appeal that should perform much better as a logo in terms of brand recognition.
Overall, the new identity signals Qualcomm's level of maturity as a multinational corporation on the global stage, and it sends the messages of quality, commitment, competence, and success to their competition. It is both forward-looking and bold. The mock-ups below give a visual proof of concept of how the overall implementation and integration might look.
