BRITISH PETROLEUM
Artist's Statement
British Petroleum is a British multinational oil and gas company headquartered in London, England. It is a vertically integrated company meaning that it opperates everything from exploration and mining operations, to extraction and refining, to marketing, sales, and product distribution.
For the BP identity upgrade, I focused only on the initials BP. The green and yellow sunflower has been around since 2000 and has earned and garnered substantial brand recognition during this time. In other words, a redesign was simply out of the question. Therefore, I chose to incorporate it with the new BP initial design.
For the redesign of the BP initial identity, I took inspiration from the earlier BP logos that featured wide shields with pointy bits, and the curvature of the yellow and green sunflower itself. A dark and light green gradient was chosen to match and compliment the color scheme of the main flower graphic. The overall redesign is solid, fresh, and clean, and it can be seen well from a distance.
Conceptual art includes external building signage, shipping container signage, internal wall and stationary art. See mock-ups below.
