BLACKROCK
Artist's Statement
Blackrock is an American multinational investment company, and the world's largest asset manager with $11.5 trillion in assets under management as of 2024. It is headquartered in New York City, with 70 offices in 30 countries, and clients in over 100 countries.
For the Blackrock identity upgrade, I focused on both the logo and the typography. Their logo before was a sans-serif capital B. Nothing too exciting. Their name too, likewise used the same font with two words pushed together with a capital R for rock & BlackRock.
I started with the graphic logo. Inspiration was taken from the Great Pyramid of Egypt and the hardest and shiniest rock in the world & the diamond. It has a post-modern design that is built for both longevity and superior brand recognition.
The pyramid design signifies permanence and excellence. The double pyramid & male and female energies. While the diamond signifies unbreakable, hardened, success, and the envy of all others. For the text, I chose an all-caps serif typeface, which in Roman times used to be carved into rock using chisels: hence the chisel marks in the type that we now call serifs. See mock-ups below.
