AKIN LAW FIRM
Artist's Statement
Akin was founded from humble beginings in 1945 in Houston, Texas. Since that time, they have become a multi-national partnership with 17 offices world-wide. When we approached Akin, their name was their logo. Name logos are common for law firms; however, law firms maturing and expanding on the global stage of litigation benefit best from a symbol. A brand that can be easily recognized by anyone from any culture, regardless of language barriers.
The research for Akin's new identity and brand went all the way back to their roots when Robert Strauss and Richard Gump founded the firm. It became clear that Strauss early on was the guiding light behind Akin's early success. To quote long time chairwoman Kim Koopersmith, "This is the house that Strauss built."
Seeing how Akin was emerging on the global stage, a globe would be the best choice for a graphic logo. Research into Koopersmith revealed her early focus on cooperation, inclusivity, and diversity led to strong growth and gains. A Bloomberg reporter put it this way, "Kim has Akin firing on all cylinders." We then began to design a group of interconnected rings that both symbolized the values Koopersmith brought to Akin, as well as the memory and sphere of influence of its founding members: Akin Gump Strauss Hauer Feld LLP.
